Move into the Flow of Your Experience

Thousands of thoughts a day, cellular regeneration, joy, pain, tension, relaxation: each moment a life of its own, individual and succinct. How can we move into the moment, gather its essence, and move on?
It is possible to experience each thought and physical sensation as it manifest and move onto the next one by being fully present.
This process takes practice, and often guidance to work, and also to have a spillover effect of calm and smooth transitions into everyday life. It is the basis of meditative experience and at the heart of body awareness, healing and ultimately stress reduction. The mind resists letting go and moving on, it wants to analyze.
During a practice sitting, creative ideas and positive thoughts arise as well as suppressed emotions and negative thinking. It is important to let these thoughts and feelings, whether positive or negative, to go...like clouds passing in a windy sky, and to trust they will resurface or be called up, at a more appropriate time to be examined.
As in the Zen tradition, I am talking about focusing on the breath: inhale deeply through the nose, belly rising before chest and exhale through nose or mouth, belly deflating last.
Taking time out while focusing on the breath does not eliminate time for planning, scheduling and analysis; on the contrary these processes are enhanced as a result. To motivate the flow of creative energy try these and see what unfolds:
Block out time to do nothing, without wearing a watch.
Workout without a headset, TV or reading material and focus on the breath (inhale 4-6, exhale 4-6).
We cannot stop the waves, but we can learn to surf!
